Disclaimer Note
Regarding the amount of tension the adaptor disc/phalange transfers to the balloon.
This product could conceivably cause harm if applied improperly and unecessarily too tightly. Do Not apply to tightly where disc form
changes from original form. Loosen as needed it will move and can be guided along the shaft of your catheter with manual pressure.

This tension should be professionally and or individually decided upon by the physician, a medical professional and / or its user.
Minimal tension is required where the disc slightly comes off the surface of the skin and where the disc doesn't change form is how
it is recommended and utilized properly.

If your leakage is severe, be patient ! As the catheter is held in position and immobilized a seal is allowed to form and is now able
to take place. Everyone is different and in some people this doesn't occur immediately, but it will, and drainage or leakage will be
decreased, and continue to decrease overtime with continual usage. Since this product is completely adjustable as  to its position of
the adaptor on the catheterand is therefore reliant upon the proper application, placement and continual wear of the device and is
therefore the total responsibility of how it it is used, and it is totally dependent upon on the individual whom adjusts
the device for fit.

Because of the adjustable nature of this item any harm that one might may occur as result of
it being applied inappropriately will be and can only be considered user error
.

YES ! IT STILL WORKS EVEN IF APPLIED BACKWARDS or UPSIDE DOWN TO STOP LEAKAGE !
It will and has worked to Stop leakage even when applied to the catheter backwards !
HOWEVER THIS IS NOT THE BEST, MOST SUITABLE AND ERGONOMICALLY FRIENDLY WAY TO WEAR OR USE THE DISC.

Concave surface of the disc faces the patients skin,
the balloon and the catheter tip.
PLEASE USE AND APPLY DISC CORRECTLY FOR BEST RESULTS,
AND AS DEPICTED IN THE REST OF THE WEBSITE
EVEN THOUGH IT WILL STILL WORK
EVEN IF APPLIED BACKWARDS !

Insertion Instructions and Application and Usage Recommendations

The Supra-Cath Adaptor is totally and completely adjustable, and should be positioned
on the catheter where it just sits where its snug or contacts the body surface just enough
to achieve the desired effect, and be adjusted along the catheter as needed by the user or care giver.

The Supra-Cath Adaptor phalange will fit the bore of any catheter as marked, however the outer bore of
different catheters brand to brand and even different manufacturers for the same brand may differ slightly therefore
the tightness of the adaptors fit from catheter to catheter may also vary slightly. Because of this, the tightness and
grip the disc will have and maintain on the catheter creating the pull or tension on the catheter and the balloon which
occludes the bladder neck will therefore also vary slightly, as well as the amount of difficulty or effort you
will experience making the application.

The Supra-Cath Positioning Adapter is made to fit on any indwelling urethral catheter !
Note: because all catheters are not made with the exact same specifications brand to brand; slight variances
in the fit, tightness may be evident or noticed by the user; however no change in function will be occur.

Because the application of the Supra-Cath phalange or retention disc crimps the bore of the catheter slightly

while it engages the outer bore  we recommend that 20fr be the minimum size catheter to be used so that the
inner bore remains sufficient to facilitate unimpeded drainage of urine from the bladder. Simply upsize
the leaking patients catheter from an 18fr to a 20 fr and apply the adaptor.

At the other end of the spectrum, if your leaking patient currently has a 28fr or larger catheter at present.

We recommend automatically downsizing the catheter on the initial use of the Supra-Cath adaptor 1 or even 2 bore sizes.
Don’t worry or be concerned by this, remember that with the Supra-Cath system you are now going to stop the leakage
with is a new and different technique, this being the front door/back door principle.

Possible equipment needed or necessary to ease the application of the phalange to the catheter.

-Blunt or rounded end forceps, or hemostats. KY jelly or Recommended TAO Ointment, possibly sterile H2O or saline
to lubricate tip (Sparingly lubricate only the tip of the catheter as it is passed thru the adaptor as you will need it
to then grip the tip you just lubricated).
-Clean or Sterilize adaptor as you see fit to yours or your clinicians own specifications.
"
Mepilex 4x4 sponge with safetac"
or
Mepilex 4x4 sponge with safetac Silver for any redness or tenderness.
-Use only 30cc catheters because you want a balloon that is designed to hold easily
a minimum of 15-20 cc of fluid.
(The larger the balloon is inflated inside the bladder; the larger the barrier to leakage).

Application of Phalange to Catheter

1st prepare disc/phalange to your specification as to its cleanliness or sterility. Then prepare your equipment
you are to use for the application. Use blunt end forceps or hemostats and grasp the catheter tip and sparingly
apply lubricant. {Saline or sterile water an also be used as lubricant by itself in conjunction with jelly or ointment
for application of the phalange to the catheter}. Grasp phalange and place catheter tip thru the whole of the receiving
end of  the disc/phalange. This will and should require considerable effort.  Once tip of catheter is protruding thru
the
body of the  phalange grasp it by the tip and maintain a firm hold on the tip of the catheter and pull thru. You might
also make use of elongating or stretching the catheter during  the application. This makes the catheter thinner,
easing the process. Now move the phalange along the shaft of the catheter towards the catheters y section.
Now the application of the phalange to the catheter is complete and you are ready for the insertion.
Another Application Technique: you may also use the blunt end of either your forceps or hemostats and insert it
into the catheter drainage hole so that your instrument is encompassed by the tip of the catheter and
forcefully push catheter tip thru the receiving end of the adaptor until it exits and protrudes sufficiently thru
the opposite side of the phalange enough so  you can grasp and maintain the tip
while pulling the catheter thru the phalange.

Insertion, Wear and Adjustment or Fit of the Supra-Cath

Prepare the patient as you normally do with a catheter insertion and insert also as you normally do. Inflate balloon
and pull balloon taut and now 1 additional step is required. Advance the phalange down the shaft of the catheter
till it meets the skin surface, while maintaining the catheter under slight tension. The amount of pressure or tension
on that balloon is up to you or your physician (should be a touch snug yet remain comfortable)
and the phalange simply maintains that tension).
Technical and Safety Recommendation - use min 20cc of fluid to achieve a sufficiently wide/large enough balloon

to quell or halt urine leakage. A large balloon also distributes the necessary forces from the device over a wider area
within the bladder negating any undue pressure. Use a minimum of 15cc of sterile H20 within the balloon to insure
the balloon acting as a barrier substantial enough to occlude exit, the tension placed or held on the catheters balloon
is thereby minimized as it is  distributed over a larger surface area within the bladder.

The minimal amount of tension or snuggness that the adaptor disc needs to perform its task is minuscule,
at least initially and/ or if the user is prone to skin break-down it is recommended that a

" Mepilex 4x4 with safetac drsg with a hole cut thru to its center is applied between the disc and the patients skin
thereby insuring that no skin irritation develops. This also trains and prepares the area for the addition (the disc),
being applied and becoming a permanent fixture on the users catheter.

And also it is being recommended that initially the insertion site could or should be dressed with a
"Mepilex 4x4 sponge with safetac"  or Mepilex 4x4 sponge with safetac Silver for any redness or tenderness.
Cut a slit to the center of the drsg and wrap around Cath and beneath
the disc to cushion the skin, at minimum until the user becomes accustomed to wearing the disc.
